Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Executive Chef of Union South, this Sous Chef position is responsible for managing production and execution of all retail items, grab and go items, and the bake shop as needed for Wisconsin Union Dining and Hospitality.

Responsibilities: Oversees daily food service operations including staff management and/or customer issue resolution in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals. This individual identifies work unit needs and contributes to the development of unit processes and procedures.

  • 35% Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • 25% Selects, develops, implements and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
  • 20% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • 10% Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training
  • 10% Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership

Education:

Preferred
Associate’s Degree
We are mostly intertested in your learned and work experience, however an Associates’ Degree, Culinary Degree or other formal training will complement your base of knowledge.

Qualifications:

Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in food service supervision, preferably in a college environment.
Experience and skill in a high volume environment.

License/Certification:

Required
ServSafe Certification
Need to be able to obtain within 3 months of hire
Required
Drivers License – Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
Schedule: Sunday Thru Thursday 10 AM – 6PM
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $51,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

The Wisconsin Union operates two buildings on the UW-Madison campus. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by twenty-two food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $45 million dollars.
The Wisconsin Union is part of Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the Vice chancellor for student affairs. Our staff is dedicated to serving students and to helping them succeed in and out of the classroom in areas including health and well-being, identity and inclusion, leadership and engagement, and student advocacy.
