We are looking for a Software Quality Assurance Specialist to support our Knowledge, Information and Technology Services (KITS) Branch. The Software Quality Assurance Specialist would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The successful candidate will balance leadership and technical abilities as, under the direction of the Manager, Web Applications Development, they will be involved in the design, development and support of KITS’ corporate applications. The incumbent’s major responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing business analysis functions in support of corporate applications and project activities.
  • Designing and implementing test strategies for applications under development.
  • Performing quality assurance related activities.
  • Participating in the operational support and change management.
  • Identifying business opportunities based on the knowledge of corporate applications.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.

An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be accepted.

Experience

  • Significant* and recent** experience in performing quality assurance related activities (including but not limited to performing functional, systems, regression, and usability testing).
  • Significant* and recent** experience in maintaining test management tools such as SpiraPlan, Micro Focus ALM/Quality Center, IBM Engineering Test Management, TestComplete, etc.
  • Experience performing business analysis functions (including but not limited to eliciting, analyzing, and documenting business requirements).
  • Experience in developing and implementing test strategies.
  • Experience conducting Web Accessibility assessments against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Government of Canada Web Standards and the Web Experience Toolkit (WET) framework considered an asset.
  • *Significant is defined as experience acquired over a minimum period of three years.
    **Recent is defined as experience acquired within the last two years.

    Technical Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of quality assurance best practices and processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of manual and basic knowledge of automated testing concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of business analysis and modeling techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, give clear explanations and provide technical training.
     
  • Assets:

    • Ability to conduct Web Accessibility assessments using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 or 2.1.
    • Knowledge of common Web Development Technologies such as HTML, CSS and WAI-ARIA.

    Relocation

    Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC’s directives.

    Compensation

    From $74,552 to $93,612 per annum. 

     

    In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.

     

    An incumbent occupying a position within the CS Group is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $176 per month.
