JOB PURPOSE:
The Hoover Institution’s Shared Services department is looking for a Software Developer who can partner with Hoover IT and multiple business units to understand business problems, develop, and deliver the right technology solutions while maintaining existing ones. The ideal candidate will help Hoover increase operational efficiency and grow our capabilities.
In this role you will become an expert on multiple Stanford and SaaS applications and contribute to administration, enhancement, automation, and integration efforts. One key aspect of this role will focus on the implementation and ongoing development of a Customer Relationship Management system (CRM). Through close collaboration, you will design, configure, and customize the system to meet business needs and utilize your programming knowledge to build advanced functionality as needed.
We are seeking someone with strong technical skillset and a high aptitude and willingness to learn our business and systems.
CORE DUTIES*:
- Work closely with multiple departments to understand and document business processes, user needs and requirements.
- Lead development execution of requirements from the business regarding new system needs and existing system changes/enhancements.
- Conceptualize, design, develop, and implement solutions that may involve sophisticated data manipulation.
- Maintain and update existing programs.
- Troubleshoots data and system issues by using a combination of system expertise, company knowledge, and detailed research/investigation.
- Create programs to meet reporting and analysis needs.
- Design and implement user and operations training programs.
- Document changes in software for end users.
- Implement standards and best practices for development, testing, and change control.
- Serve as technical resource with respect to applications.
ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:
- Consistently assume a technical lead role in architecting the CRM system, related customizations, and reports to model the business organizational process.
- Develop integrations between new or existing systems, both internal and external.
- Serve as system administrator and primary technical contact for CRM and multiple additional SaaS applications and PaaS/IaaS providers.
- Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders and users to understand business processes and to evaluate the impact of design decisions on the system, configuration, and related business processes. Develop intra-system tradeoffs between users, as necessary.
- Leverage Agile methodologies including Scrum to deliver solutions.
- Collaborate on development of low-code and no-code solutions, utilizing Smartsheet and similar products.
- Support SaaS application selection, technical implementation, change management, and governance.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Current knowledge of latest software and design standards.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for technical applications.
- Knowledge of and ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Ability to recognize and recommend needed changes in user and/or operations procedures.
- Basic knowledge of software engineering principles.
- Strong knowledge of at least one programming language.
Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience developing in at least one of these: Python, Ruby, or a JavaScript framework like Node.js, AngularJS, React, or Vue.js with strong knowledge of HTML5 and CSS.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, design, and architecture.
- Familiarity with API development and web service infrastructure (REST, SOAP, JSON, XML).
- Familiarity with major cloud providers like Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
- Experience with a CRM platform like Hubspot or Salesforce is a plus.
- Familiarity with CRM business processes like Forecasting, Campaign Management, Lead Management, Pipeline Management, Account Management, and Case Management.
- Ability to manage/prioritize multiple demands from a user base that spans multiple departments.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills—especially related to articulating technical specifications to non-technical staff.
- Ability to select a technology tool, system, or approach for a given project given scope, timeline, and resources.
- Experience working with cross functional teams on projects using Agile methodologies including Scrum.
