Despite continuous advances in targeted cancer therapy in recent years, there remains a major challenge to combat drug resistance and poor levels of efficacy in areas of unmet medical need, such as advanced colorectal and breast cancer. This preclinical project will build on our previous work exploiting novel targets in cancer drug design to identify drug candidates for further development within an interdisciplinary and collaborative setting. The project will be carried out between the Cardiff University School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (Prof. Andrew Westwell) and the Cardiff University European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute (Prof. Richard Clarkson).
Experience in medicinal chemistry and/or in vitro drug candidate testing through previous project work is essential, ideally within the cancer research field.
You can apply online – consideration is automatic on applying for a PhD with an October 2024 start date.
