Slitting Operator – 2nd Shift in Mississauga, Ontario

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Slitting Operator is responsible for setting up the machine, running production of the slitter, cleaning of the slitter and all maintenance on the slitting machines. This position is responsible for operating machines to slit continuous lengths of laminated film into specified widths that meet your customer quality specifications.  This role would also be responsible for packing off the slitter for shipping, when required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Identifies and ensures that proper materials are used for production

  • Ensures mistakes are not made and materials match as necessary

  • Manages pre-run testing of the material to ensure the correct coding weights and bond strength are applied

  • Runs the proper amount of material/footage to the job order

  • Completes proper checking of production and material

  • Cleans the slitter daily; organizes machine and material parts during closing operations

  • Prepares for production at the end of each day for the following day 

  • Spaces rotary blades on the machine shaft, according to width specified on slitting work order.

  • Loads material on machine supports and threads material over tension bar.

  • Starts machine and observes flow of material through machine to detect irregular cutting and/or winding.

  • Moves levers to stop, start, and regulate speed of machine and to align material with rotary blades.

  • Disengages winding shaft and removes finished rolls of material.

  • Wraps rollstock in poly liners using core plugs. Labels, palletizes and fills out manifest for custom orders.

  • Completes required documentation accurately and timely.

  • Meets or exceeds prescribed job standards for line speeds, scrap and set-up times.

  • Reports any necessary maintenance of the machine to the engineering department using a written work order.

  • Reports any unsafe working conditions to the production supervisor.

  • Participates in on-going training opportunities and supports a continuous quality improvement environment.

  • Review work instructions and procedures that are applicable to the position.

    NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Performs other duties as assigned 

  • Turns on auxiliary and other equipment as needed

  • Loads and unloads trucks as needed

    JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to read rulers

  • Ability to read and understand gauges

  • Testing of equipment

  • Ability to use a micrometer

  • Must have good communication skills both personal and via Email 

  • Multiple machine qualifications preferred. 

  • Must have outstanding troubleshooting skills 

  • Must have good judgment with decision making in regards to Safety and Quality. 

  • Ability to complete production related documentation on both computer and paper forms 

  • Must have excellent team skills 

  • Ability to take direction from several individuals 

  • Ability to work additional overtime if required to get the job tasks completed 

  • Self-motivated and ability to make decisions

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • 2-3 years of experience in production, slitting and printing setting

  • High school diploma preferred

  • Shift Flexibility is a requirement – The 2nd shift can start anywhere from 12:00 pm until 02:00 am (subject to change). Training hours may be in the morning.
