Site Services Casual Assistant

About the opportunity

The Site Services Casual Assistant will offer a wide range of support services in order to provide high quality information to University students, staff, researchers and the community to support their learning, teaching, research and scholarship endeavours. Our libraries are located on different campuses and specialise in particular subjects and this position will be required to travel to all library locations (Fisher Library, SciTech Library, Susan Wakil Health Building Library and The Conservatorium of Music Library)  as required which are closely accessible by public transport.

The Site Services Division manages the non-digital resources, membership, loan and general enquiries and provides management of the Library’s physical environment and study spaces across multiple locations.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • in collaboration with other Site Services Staff, you will provide in-person learning and research support services

  • respond to general questions about the library and it’s services via service points, roving services, and by telephone

  • assist clients with locating and using online and printed information resources and refer more complex queries as necessary

  • assist clients with access problems relating to loan matters according to stated policies and guidelines

  • look for better ways to perform routine aspects of the job using appropriate technology and incorporate new technology into activities going forward

About you

  • trades Certificate or Certificate III; or Year 12, or Certificate II with relevant work experience, or relevant combination of both

  • a current Working with Children Check

  • demonstrated track record of providing excellent customer service in a high volume environment

  • demonstrated ability to solve basic problems and to exercise sound judgement

  • relevant computer skills in a range of word processing, spreadsheet and web based software

  • positively contribute to a team environment

  • ability to demonstrate strong initiative, with attention to detail

  • ability to effectively prioritise work load.
