Site Reliability Engineer

• Utilise your expertise in maintaining operational coverage of services and functions offered through the University’s cloud compute and storage environments including research infrastructure
• Base Salary $111,966 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Site Reliability Engineer provides expertise in maintaining operational coverage of services and functions offered through the University’s cloud compute and storage environments including research infrastructure. Focus includes optimisation of cost and performance, incident and request fulfilment, security, automation, scale, metric collection and visibility into production health.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• work with managed service providers, vendors and other external entities to ensure that outcomes will deliver services based on principles of continuous service improvement
• undertakes a hands-on role supporting application environments and research infrastructure, ensuring timely and effective response to users’ needs, including prioritisation and resolution of requests and incidents
• reduce cloud sprawl by focusing on adopting and implementing cloud native automation in consultation with vendors and Automation Engineers
• support analysis of metric-based monthly reports on capacity, cost and performance
• keep abreast of contemporary IT industry trends, primarily as they relate to cloud solutions and automation.

About you

• experience with public cloud technology such as AWS and Azure and related platform toolsets
• highly developed communication skills with the sound interpersonal skills necessary to promote, facilitate and achieve effective co-ordination of cross disciplinary support teams and cooperation among peers
• previous experience in the higher education/tertiary sector or at a complex, multi-faceted organisation
• technical knowledge and competence in multiple of Operating Systems including Windows and Linux OS, cloud storage, cloud networking and certificate management
• demonstrated ability to work as a team with, liaise and negotiate with internal and external customers, contractors and suppliers at multiple levels of an organisation.
