Job Description Summary:
The Hearing and Speech Department at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in Audiology/Hearing Science at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is expected to begin as early as August 2023.
The University of Kansas Medical Center is a major comprehensive research and teaching center with numerous centers and institutes, including the Hogland Brain Imaging Center, the Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Cancer Institute, and the Center for Aging. The School of Health Professions, where this position is housed, has a newly established center, KU-CARES (KU Center for Community Access, Rehabilitation Research, Education and Service), to provide robust support for research within the School. Collectively, these centers offer numerous resources including subject recruitment, funding, and research design.
The Medical Center campus includes the Schools of Health Professions, Medicine, and Nursing, which together enroll about 4000 students. The recently completed 171,000 square foot Health Education Building provides advanced technology classrooms and simulation labs. The Department of Hearing and Speech houses a dedicated audiology simulation lab equipped with state-of-the-art software and equipment to facilitate clinical-skill development among first- and second-year Au.D. students. In January 2023, the Department will open a new clinical vestibular lab equipped with a comprehensive suite of diagnostic equipment, including a rotary chair.
The successful candidate will be expected to (1) develop an extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise and to regularly disseminate findings in peer-reviewed publications and presentations, (2) teach graduate courses in the audiology clinical doctorate (Au.D.) and Ph.D. degree programs in the Department of Hearing and Speech, which is part of the University of Kansas’ nationally ranked Intercampus Program in Communicative Disorders, (3) advise and mentor graduate students, including Ph.D. dissertations and Au.D. capstone research projects, and (4) provide service to the department, school, university, and discipline at a level commensurate with their rank.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications: 

• Education: Ph.D. degree in Audiology, Hearing Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.   

• Work Experience: Expertise in hearing or vestibular sciences related to normal or disordered function.   

• Skills: Evidence of potential for the development of a funded, programmatic line of research.  Evidence of ability to effectively teach and mentor graduate students. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Education: Post-doctoral experience.   

• Work Experience: Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable:  Auditory Physiology, Auditory Electrophysiology, Cochlear Implants and Implantable Prostheses, Hearing Aids, Speech Perception, Aging and the Auditory System,

  Vestibular Physiology and Diagnostics, Genetics of Hearing Loss.  All areas of expertise within Audiology and the Hearing Sciences are encouraged to apply. 

• Skills: ASHA Certification (CCC-A) preferred but not required.
