PLA 1656 H1F: Land Use Planning: Principles and Practice
Course Description: This course introduces students to the statutory and non-statutory components of the planning process, including issues and implications of various planning policies and tools, and the role and responsibilities of key stakeholders. The course provides students with a foundation in the planning framework in Ontario, through a review of the intent of legislation and policy, and a critical discussion of the application of policy to current issues and case studies. With an emphasis on several issues of relevance to municipalities in the Toronto region, it also reviews planning approaches from cities around the world. The course focuses on land-use planning but also explores other key considerations and issues in the planning process.

Salary: Sessional Lecturer I – $4,728.95. Sessional Lecturer I Long-term – $4,965.40. Sessional Lecturer II – $5,060.88. Sessional Lecturer II Long-term – $5,163.31; Sessional Lecturer III – $5,181.38; Sessional Lecturer III Long-term – $5,285.01

Minimum Qualifications: A Professional master’s degree in urban planning required. Substantial experience in professional planning practice in either the public or private sector required. Suitable background knowledge in land use planning required.
Preferred Qualifications: Practice in the public sector preferred. Previous university level experience as a sole or co-instructor preferred. Previous graduate level university teaching strongly preferred.
Brief description of duties: Preparing course outline and syllabus. Delivering lectures; developing and administering grading, course assignments. Holding office hours. Grading of assignments and providing student feedback.
