Description:

Objectives:  Explore the methods through which we acquire and make apparent knowledge in a variety of contexts, from early stakeholder engagement to implementation science. 

  • Critically engage with qualitative, design, and quantitative methods used to acquire and share knowledge;
  • Build skills such as interviewing, sketching, ideation, and qualitative user testing;
  • Gather evidence for iterative improvement of problem-solving designs;
  • Assess strategies for interdisciplinary collaboration and interaction;
  • Understand how knowledge generation and its application can lead to new and better ways of improving health care.

Description:  The course will be structured as a weekly two-hour session, generally consisting of a one-hour lecture, a one-hour guided discussion, guest speaker, or workshop, or writing/peer review exercise. The second half of the course, “Ways of Knowing II” will focus on qualitative research and design methods, issues and facilitation. The sessions will look at recruiting and engaging people during interviews and focus groups as the methods for generating and collecting data. 

Estimated course enrollment:  ~ 30 students

Class schedule:  2-hour seminar-style workshops; occurring Tuesday or Thursdays 

Sessional dates of appointment:  January 1, 2023 to April 30, 2023

Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I – $4,244.83
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $4,434.63
Sessional Lecturer II – $4,542.79
Sessional Lecturer III – $4,650.95

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:  PhD with equivalent professional and/or academic experience is preferred.

Description of duties:  Preparation and delivery of course content, including lectures and/or seminars; creation of courseware; the development and administration of assignments, tests and examinations; marking and grading of student work and the submission of grades to appropriate University officials, maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours.
