Course Code: KPE423H: Theory of Dance Performance
Course description: In this course students will define, research and explore essential elements of dance. These elements include dance technique, musicality, artistry, and choreography. Research and relevant experiences from other KPE courses will be integrated into the lectures and the embodied learning of the lab. Students will research staging, lighting and show production for their major project, which consists of the students choreographing and staging their own work for formal performance. This performance serves to illustrate the theoretical knowledge that the students have gained over the 12-week course.

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 31, 2025
Appointment percentage: 0.5 FCE
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90 includes 4% vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,930.79 includes 6% vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77 includes 6% vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,326.62 includes 6% vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76 includes 6% vacation pay
Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,570.02 includes 6% vacation pay
Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications: Over and above the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in this area.
Preference for the same instructor to teach KPE423 in both the F and S terms.
Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable. This course will be taught in an in-person format in the 2024-2025 academic year.
