Course Code: KIN8214H: Leadership in Sport Coaching

Course description: This course explores leadership theory in sports coaching, examining how coach leadership styles impact motivation, team dynamics, and decision-making in sport. Through case studies, students will evaluate sport coaching methods and develop a personal leadership philosophy. The course also covers leadership in sports governance and career pathways. By the end of the course, students will gain practical leadership strategies to inspire athletes, build teams, and advance coaching.

Appointment percentage: 0.5 FCE

Salary:

Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term – $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $10,570.02

Minimum Qualifications: PhD preferred in a relevant area, or combination of relevant expertise and experience. Teaching experience in college or university setting is an asset.

Description of duties: All duties associated with the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TAs assigned to the course, if applicable. This course will be taught in person.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
