Course description: This course exposes students to research and practical approaches in the context of health professions of relevance to linguistics students, especially audiology and speech-language pathology. Students learn about evidence-informed practice, research methodologies, practice approaches and theories in the health professions. Students will be poised to benefit from optional service learning placements during or following the course, in research laboratories or clinical settings. Successful completion of this course provides students with exposure and experience of use in their applications to audiology, speech-language pathology, and other clinical programs and in their future health or graduate studies. 

Estimated TA Support: 1 Grader (Approx. 40 hours)

An estimate of the course enrolment: 40 undergraduates

Hours of Work (hours available for each position): 140 hours

Class schedule: Lectures on Monday 14:00-17:00

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

  • This course is scheduled to be delivered in-person. Please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, this course may be delivered in-person, remotely/online, or by a combination of delivery methods as determined by the Faculty or Department at a later date.

Salary (includes vacation pay):

Sessional Lecturers I – $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturers I (Long Term) – $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturers II – $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturers II (Long Term) – $10,326.62

Sessional Lecturers III – $10,362.76

Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term) – $10,570.02

  • Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must meet the following qualifications:

Required: Solid background in theoretical linguistics and/or speech-language pathology, and mastery of the course material, including ongoing research related to the course material and/or clinical experience in SLP. A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience and good teaching evaluations as a Course Instructor in any linguistics or SLP course.

A brief description of the duties: Sessional Lecturer positions involve the normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including but not restricted to: preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; and supervision of TAs as required. The instructor is expected to be fully available for the duration of the employment period and be in geographical proximity to the University.
