Course description:
A survey of the development of mathematics from 1700 to the present with emphasis on historical issues.
Estimated course enrolment: 180 (90 in HPS and 90 in MAT)
Estimated TA support: 350 hours
Class schedule: Mondays, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 to April 30, 2025
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term – $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $10,570.02
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum qualifications: PhD in history and/or philosophy of Science or in mathematics, with expertise in history of mathematics; relevant teaching experience.
Preferred qualifications: demonstrated evidence of superior teaching in history and/or philosophy of science, and ideally in history of mathematics.
Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course materials; preparation and delivery of assignments; supervision of teaching assistants, if applicable; marking of student work; submission of grades to university officials; reasonable student contact and office hours.
