Description:
Criticism is a practice of writing distinct from academic argumentation or artists’ writings, with a long history in periodicals, newspapers, and exhibition catalogues. The course surveys the genre to analyze key texts that have shaped the narrative of art leading to, and including, the current discourse. Students both read and write criticism in the course, experimenting with voice, rhetoric, and polemics.

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024
Estimate of the course enrolment: Approximately 25 students per section
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $10,570.02 (inclusive of vacation pay)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: MA, MFA (or equivalent graduate degree), or PhD (or equivalency in professional experience and terminal degree) in the field and previous lecture/seminar teaching experience. Applicants may be asked to supply references.
Preferred Qualifications: International publishing record.
Description of Duties: Preparation and delivery of course material; managing digital teaching materials, supervision of teaching assistants; preparation and delivery of assignments, tests, seminars; marking of student work, submission of grades, dealing with student enquiries, appeals and petitions and student contact hours.
