The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. More than 150,000 new print volumes are acquired each year. The Libraries’ data centre houses more than 600 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.

Course Title: Modern Chinese History

Position Type: Sessional Lecturer

Minimum Qualifications: PhD or advanced ABD in Chinese history; relevant teaching experience in the subject area; currency and mastery of the subject matter; evidence of effectiveness as an instructor

Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in this or an equivalent course; Strong academic record and professional promise as evidenced by ongoing research and publication.

Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; submission of a deferred exam; holding regular office hours; supervising TA’s assigned to the course, if applicable.

Relevant Criterion: Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

TA Support: Teaching Assistant support will be provided if the enrollment reaches 45 students or higher.
