Description:
Temperate and tropical wildlife ecology and conservation; roles of wildlife in forest conservation; impacts of forestry practices and landscape modification on wildlife; ecology and viability of wildlife populations; human uses and abuses of game and non-game species.
Class Schedule:
Lecture: Fridays 1:00PM – 3:00PM
Sessional dates of appointment: 1 September 2024 – 31 December 2024; please note that this position includes the completion of any course work and grading not completed by 31 December 2024
Estimate of the course enrolment: Approximately 20-30 students
Salary: Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90; Sessional Lecturer I Long Term – $9,930.79; Sessional Lecturer II – $10,121.77; Sessional Lecturer II Long Term – $10,326.62; Sessional Lecturer III – $10,362.76; Sessional Lecturer III Long Term – $10,570.02 (inclusive of vacation pay)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge and a very strong background in each of the following: wildlife conservation, animal, avian and insect ecology and ecosystem management, endangered species, biology, and plant physiology along with forestry experience.
Previous teaching, research, and field technician experience in wildlife, avian, and insect ecology and ecosystem management, biology, and plant physiology.
Teaching certificates are also an asset. Excellent presentation and communication skills – both oral and written.
Description of Duties: Prepare and deliver lectures, organize guest speakers, maintain course notes and readings, set and mark course assignments, which may include mid-term, essay and final examination or other assignments; compile, record and submit final marks. Be available to students through regular office hours.
