Course code and title: CIN349H1Y – Screenwriting
Course description: This course teaches students to develop screenwriting skills under the guidance of a renowned screenwriter-in-residence through a combination of writing workshops and individual consultations. Like the course, the appointment of the Universal Screenwriter-in-Residence occurs biannually.

Class schedule: Meeting times scheduled for Fridays 10:00 – 13:00. Instructor will hold at least 12 sessions over the academic year with the schedule to be agreed upon with the Institute.

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 – April 30, 2025.
Salary: $20,000.00 (funded by Universal Studios Canada Endowment)
Minimum qualifications:
- A strong record as a professional screenwriter, teleplay writer, or filmmaker
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
Preferred qualifications:
- National and international reputation as a writer and/or filmmaker
- Experience working with funding organizations such as the Arts Council of Ontario and Telefilm Canada.
- Experience working across modes, including feature, short, serial, music video, etc.
- Likes movies.
Description of duties: The Sessional Lecturer will follow the broad outline of the syllabus that has been established for the course, using any textbooks/films that may have been ordered. Revisions and/or updates to the curriculum should be discussed with the Director. They will lecture, grade assignments, hold office hours each week, and answer queries by email or appointment.
