Course code and title: CIN210H1F – Horror Film

Course description: This course is the study of horror films in their cultural and political contexts and the genre’s narrative and conceptual components. The goal of the course is to familiarize students with horror films as popular genre texts from the 1920s to the present.

Estimated course enrolment: 200 students

Estimated TA support: 800 hours of TA and grader support

Class schedule: Tuesday 12:00-15:00

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024.

Salary: 

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer I, Long Term: $9,930.79

Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum qualifications:

  • MA or PhD in Film/Cinema
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching cinema at the university level, with a concentration on film history, theory, practice, and/or analysis.
  • At least 5 years of experience marking undergraduate essays in cinema.
  • Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to teach online if public health issues require.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in horror film and genres

Description of duties: The Sessional Lecturer will follow the broad outline of the syllabus that has been established for the course, using any textbooks/films that may have been ordered. Revisions and/or updates to the curriculum should be discussed with the Director. They will lecture, grade assignments, hold office hours each week, and answer queries by email or appointment.
