Course number and title: EESC07H3 – Groundwater

Course description: Groundwater represents the world’s largest and most important fresh water resource. This basic course in hydrogeology introduces the principles of groundwater flow and aquifer storage and shows how a knowledge of these fundamental tools is essential for effective groundwater resource management and protection. Special emphasis is placed on the practical methods of resource exploration and assessment; examples of the approach are given for aquifers under environmental stress in southern Ontario, the US and Africa.

Number of Hours: 0.5 FTE

Sessional dates of appointment: Specific duties will occur between September 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.

Salary: Starting September 1, 2023 the following rates of pay apply for half courses (F or S), inclusive of vacation pay: $9457.89 for a Sessional Lecturer I; $9,930.79 for a Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $10,151.76 for a Sessional Lecturer II; $10,326.61 for an Sessional Lecturer II Long Term; 10,362.76 Sessional Lecturer III; and $10,570.02 for a Sessional Lecturer III Long Term.

Minimum qualifications: Sessional Lecturer must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, with a specialization in hydrogeology and groundwater modeling. The candidate should be familiar with groundwater geology and preferably be a registered Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) member.

Candidates with prior teaching experience in the course or familiarity with the course content will be given preference. The candidate must be familiar with computer technology and the Quercus course management system.

Description of duties: 

Preparation of lectures, lecturing, creation of exams, term tests, and assignments, marking, marks management, management of Quercus, and supervision of TA(s).

Schedule for the course:

Lectures: Mondays from 7-9 pm (in-person)
