The Buddhism, Psychology & Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024 to teach the following in person course:
BPM232H1F – BUDDHISM AND PSYCHOLOGY
BPM232H1F – An overview of the encounter between Buddhism and psychology over the last century, with cross-disciplinary study of topics such as self, embodiment, impermanence, suffering, liberation, and insight. We explore how (and why) scientists, psychologists, and Buddhist reformers have reinterpreted Buddhism as “science” and how Buddhist contemplative practices such as mindfulness or compassion training have been transformed and promoted by modern psychology.
Salary:
Sessional Lecturer I: $9,457.90
Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term): $9,930.79
Sessional Lecturer II: $10,121.77 Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term): $10,326.62
Sessional Lecturer III: $10,362.76
Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term): $10,570.02
Note: This course will be delivered in person. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.
Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and Psychology and/or philosophical theories of mind. Teaching experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.
Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; TA supervision and holding regular office hours.
