Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Athletic Therapy

The School of Kinesiology and Health Science, Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for a Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Athletic Therapy. This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a three-year term to commence July 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom and at the program level. As well, curricular and pedagogical innovations in the classroom and applied settings must reflect relevant evidence informed practices across the entire spectrum of the Athletic Therapy profession.

The School of Kinesiology and Health Science (KHS) http://www.yorku.ca/health/kinesiology/ has an international reputation for the quality of its research and graduate http://www.yorku.ca/gradstudies/kahs/programs/ and undergraduate education programs, and is the home to an accredited undergraduate-level Athletic Therapy certificate program http://www.yorku.ca/health/kinesiology/certificates/athletic-therapy-certificate/, with current efforts to develop a Master’s of Athletic Therapy program. The undergraduate-level Athletic Therapy certificate is an inquiry-based 3-year program and can be earned with the Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) options in KHS. KHS has a faculty complement of over 90 full-time and part-time faculty members, approximately 3300 undergraduate students in the BA or BSc program, and 180 graduate students in the MA, MSc, MFSc and PhD programs. Our vision is to be Canada’s leading academic centre for knowledge creation, integration, and dissemination about physical activity and its importance for human health, health science, and society.

Candidate Qualifications:
Degree: PhD or completed by July 1, 2025, is preferred, or PhD defense completed by December 31, 2025 in Kinesiology, or a related field is required. Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C)) with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) is also required.
Teaching:
• A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students (e.g., teaching accomplishments, pedagogical innovations, student and/or peer evaluations) in on-field emergency care skills, assessment, and management of sideline injuries, and prophylactic and rehabilitative (taping and bracing) skills).
• Strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to athletic therapy teaching, learning and program design, and evidence of good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.

Additional: Current certification as a First Responder with the Canadian Red Cross (or equivalent). .
• Demonstrated record of experience in on-field emergency care skills, assessment, and management of sideline injuries, and prophylactic and rehabilitative (taping and bracing) skills as a Certified Athletic Therapist is required.
