The Shared Services Office is a service organization dedicated to continuous improvement for HR, Payroll, and Procure to Pay services. We strive to deliver high quality services and an excellent experience so faculty and staff can focus on teaching and research. We provide Human Resources support for compensation activities, data management, staff recruitment, student employment and time tracking. We provide Payroll support for employee wage and fellowship payments, independent contractor and other reportable payments, payroll corrections, tax calculation and reporting and compliance for payment to non citizens and entities. In addition, Shared Services provides Procure to Pay support for invoice processing, vendor management, check requests, purchase order compliance and expense reimbursement.

Job Summary
 

The Senior Training Specialist, Leadership Development will design, develop, implement, and deliver training and learning documentation for managers/leaders of people at the University of Chicago. This position will also support the training execution and delivery for the upcoming new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system Oracle Cloud and its related business intelligence reporting tool, Orbit.
The individual in this position will implement innovative learning strategies that contribute to the development and sustainability of a viable workforce, enhancing expertise and compliance for the University of Chicago community. This position will initially focus on developing and delivering a comprehensive training curriculum designed for new managers of people or tenured managers of people in need of refresher training. Topics will include, but not limited to, Giving and Receiving Feedback, Making the Transition from Peer to Manager, Delegation Techniques, Managing through Change, Leading Effective Team Meetings and One on Ones, Writing and Delivering Comprehensive mid year and annual reviews, Progressive Discipline Process, Team Building Techniques.
This position requires demonstrated experience managing learning and development programs, instructional design, learning technology. The successful candidate will possess the ability to create and manage the distribution of internal and external communications, including email announcements, upcoming training opportunities, newsletters, etc. The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems in the design and delivery of training offerings for UChicago audiences. Develops and implements a strategy for targeted market training courses and evaluates the efficacy of current programs. Coordinates in-person and web-based trainings and provides necessary materials and instruction to those individual trainers.

Responsibilities

  • Creates, develops, and implements new manager/leader training curriculum in both traditional instructor lead presentations and on demand learning videos.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts, key stakeholders, and end users to define requirements for a variety of learning programs and tools based on identified performance gaps, training requirements, and learning outcomes.
  • Delivers professional and engaging instructor lead training courses to both in person and remote audiences.
  • Prepares training documentation and tools.
  • Completes review of training materials and ensures all learning content is appropriately reviewed with key internal partners prior to implementation.
  • Provides support to individuals and teams. Formulates curriculum outline and determines instructional methods utilizing knowledge of specific training needs and effectiveness such as individual training, group instruction, hands-on training, and/or training videos.
  • Facilitates trainings on new manager/leader and other  human resources topics.
  • Provides support to individuals and teams in defining, designing, and delivering targeted training, documentation, and communications. Recommends optimal learning solutions by applying personal expertise and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Develops timelines and procedures for policy, process, and/or system updates including identifying, compiling, coordination, and updating of affected resources and training content.
  • Works with minimal guidance to design and evaluate instructional programs, materials, and methods for the implementation of University-wide business systems and processes.
  • Manages front-end needs assessments, identifying key learning outcomes, writing training objectives, applying and modifying various instructional design methods, designing practice activities and scenarios, sequencing instructional content, and writing tests and learning assessments.
  • Develops and updates online manuals and user reference documentation.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues and system users, and replies to inquiries related to use of the systems.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.


Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.


Certifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree.

Experience:

  • Previous experience creating educational training content for a learning and development platform.
  • Five to seven years of experience in the human resources industry and/or as a manager or leader of people.
  • Demonstrated experience managing learning and development programs, instructional design, and learning technology.

Certifications:

  • PHR certification.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • e-Learning software (Camtasia or similar software).
  • Working knowledge of an Learning Management System, preferably Workday LMS.
  • Working knowledge of a people management system, preferably, Workday.
  • Knowledge of human resources theory and principles and knowledge of techniques for managing others.

Working Conditions

  • Use computers extensively for 4 hours or more.
