SENIOR TECHNICIAN ELECTRONIC, Haystack Observatory, to assist with the operations, assembly, repair, and maintenance of radar and radio receivers, control systems, antenna systems, computers, data networks, and high power microwave transmitters. Duties will include all phases of assembly, test, debugging, and maintenance in the areas of analog, digital, RF, microwave electronics, and fiber optic networks.   Will be involved in design, construction, assembly, and debugging of electronics enclosures. Transmitter maintenance may occasionally involve working with high voltages, dielectric oil, and large-capacity water systems.  Maintenance and installation activities may occasionally occur that involve assisting in mechanical work and tower climbing, either at the observatory or at remote field sites.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  graduation from a two year day technical school in electrical engineering, electronics technology or related field; at least five years of applicable experience; ability to operate technical instrumentation for electronic applications, e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and computer-based instrumentation; some experience with the assembly of computers; ability to work with computer systems in a variety of configurations, including PCs, workstations, embedded computers, and various operating systems including Linux; and ability to work effectively with little or no supervision.  PREFERRED:  experience with computer-aided design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Altium) and modern fabrication processes for mechanical and/or electronics applications. Job #21873

Operations activities may involve second- and third-shift work on a scheduled basis.

Must pass a tower climbing physical and be willing and able to climb towers.

Must be a U.S. citizen who is able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
