An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Engineering Technician to support research projects currently running in the university’s internationally leading Advanced Materials Engineering Research Centre.

This role would suit a Tool-room Fitter/Machinist or Process Setter/Operator

The requirements are –

Significant “hands-on” ability within an Engineering/Manufacturing environment or a Plastics extrusion/injection moulding environment.

Relevant skills can include one or any of the following, 

  • Precision machining,
  • Electronic/electrical skills 
  • Maintenance engineering 
  • Plastics manufacturing

A positive attitude and a pro-active approach to problem solving.

A good understanding of computer systems (Microsoft Office or equivalent).

Apprentice trained in an engineering related discipline.

Full support where needed will be given to the right candidate and the opportunity to expand your skills will be provided with dedicated training.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The Grade 7 Senior Technician role will also incorporate aspects of the following duties:

  • Designing and manufacturing specialist equipment, e.g. Assemblies, individual components. Setting and operating extrusion/injection-moulding machines.
  • Providing advice on technical aspects during complex research projects, where the outcome is not always clear and exploratory in nature.
  • Using software and computer packages for design and process monitoring
