Senior Technical Manager, Center of Excellence, Alexandria Water, Grant Position

Reports to: Chief of Party Chair, Research and Policy Committee
Purpose: The job holder will coordinate, manage and work closely with the Research and Policy Committee (RPC) and the Center of Excellence for Water (CoE-W) staff to carry out all the Committee’s activities. Many of the duties take the form of overseeing and facilitating rapid communication on numerous separate projects and keeping multi-step research projects moving forward.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees, manages, organizes, and carries out in-person and computer-based meetings of the Committee and Coordinating Committee
- Oversees and maintains all the activities and files of the Committee, which will include:
- Based on input from the committee, coordinates and writes up in final draft form Requests for Proposals (RFP) for research funding
- Oversees the issuing of RFPs via email, website, and possibly other modes of communication
- Receives, manages, and circulates funding proposals for review
- Solicits, receives, and manages expert reviews of funding proposals
- Organizes and manages proposal review and selection meetings
- Manages and facilitates the final negotiations and written agreements that launch research projects
- Facilitates and maintains records on the oversight of existing projects by the committee, including the receipt and payment of invoices to researchers
- Manages multiple research projects simultaneously
- Manages and helps in coordinating the annual National Water Research Symposium, at which all funding recipients will present research topics, methods, and findings
- Leads and coordinates the writing of four papers on best research practices, one per year
- Manages and assists with the transition to new members of the committee over time
- Manages all other activities of the committee as needed
- Manages, prepares and disseminates public communications summarizing the activities of the committee
- Manages and coordinates the relation between the PIs of the research projects and the Research and Policy Committee (RPC)
- Reviews the deliverables/progress of the funded research projects and reports to the RPC
- Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Master in Science in Water or related discipline
Experience:
- 10 years of professional experience in managing and coordinating research
Skills:
- Strong strategic planning, operation and management skills necessary to set and evaluate progress against goals, develop plans and timelines, establish policies and procedures, and manage data to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and levels of skills
- Excellent knowledge of management tools and software
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Highly collaborative and productive with the ability to turn strategy into action
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and effectiveness in problem-solving
- Strong technical skills in research planning
- Ability to work on big projects, interact with senior faculty and staff, collect data, analyze contends against standards and provide professional text for publications
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Highly collaborative and productive with the ability to implement project tasks independently
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and effectiveness in problem-solving
