Brown seeks to fulfill its ambitious vision for the arts as an integral presence throughout a liberal arts education. We believe the arts are fundamental to critical inquiry into the most important questions facing humanity around the world, and we support artists operating at the highest levels of their craft to inform, and be informed by, scholars in disciplines across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Responsibilities :

We seek to hire a Senior Technical Director to join a growing team at the Brown Arts Institute (BAI). The Senior Technical Director reports to the Director of Design and Production and is responsible for all technical components of productions and programs taking place in BAI venues, including the Lindemann Performing Arts Center and the Granoff Center for the Creative Arts.  The Senior Technical Director will have supervisory responsibilities over a growing technical team within the BAI that serves as a new collaborative service, guiding the production efforts of the University’s seven core arts departments affiliated with the BAI. Key responsibilities include technical direction of all BAI projects, as well as ensuring the safety and maintenance of installed and loose equipment. The Senior Technical Director will also serve as a source of guidance and advice to the arts departments, ensuring that productions across the arts are executed safely and to the highest professional standards.

An experienced, creative, and collaborative Senior Technical Director will play a pivotal role in the future success of the Brown Arts Institute. The Sr. Technical Director must enjoy collegial, collaborative relationships with the BAI Leadership Team, as well as its subordinate division leads. The Senior Technical Director, in addition to working with artists, will work closely with producers, curators, creative teams, Lindemann staff supervisors, students, faculty and technicians to oversee the technical production process.  Open lines of communication are of the utmost importance, as the BAI programs are vast, complex, and often politically sensitive.
