Welcome to our team!RequirementsSpecific RequirementsYour personal sphere of play:The group of Prof. Backus at the Institute of Physical Chemistry studies structure and dynamics of molecular processes. We apply static and time-resolved vibrational spectroscopic methods. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Senior Scientist. The position is initially for a period of 3 years with the possibility of permanent employment. The position is dedicated to extend the research focus of the Backus’ department in the context of laser spectroscopy into new directions.Your future tasks:Active participation in research, teaching, and administration, which means:

  • Contributing to research projects and scientific studies in the field of interfacial chemistry and spectroscopy
  • Developing an independent research profile
  • Possibility to write a habilitation thesis
  • International publications and presentations
  • Acquire third-party funding
  • Independently conducting teaching activities within the scope of collective bargaining regulations
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in administrative tasks in research and teaching
  • Responsibility for the laser safety of the Institute

This is part of your personality:

  • PhD in chemistry or physics and at least 3 years PostDoc experience
  • Experience in working with femtosecond lasers and building/constructing setups
  • An excellent background in vibrational spectroscopy with a focus on nonlinear optical processes
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and German
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Publications in renowned, subject-relevant peer-reviewed journals
  • Presentations at international conferences
  • Successful in third-party funding application is an advantage
  • Teaching experience
  • Desirable qualifications are: Knowledge of university processes and structures, experience abroad and experience of supervising students
