Job Summary:

The Senior Programmer Analyst is involved in all aspects of analyses conducted within the Smidt Heart Institute and provides technical expertise in a variety of areas. You will perform analyses on sophisticated problems, both statistical and from a data management perspective. Manages and develops study databases for analyses use, often working with sophisticated file structures, and serves as a resource to users of the databases. Verifies study results in draft abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations and clear documentation of all projects.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Functions as the single point of contact to a multi-functional team for a variety of managed applications. Responsible for the development and delivery lifecycle during the following phases:
  • Requirement Assessment: Works with inter-departmental teams to analyze and understand business requirements. Provides oversight during the requirements gathering phase of a project. Accurately details new requirements, improvements to existing functionality, and implementation deficiencies that need to be addressed.
  • Development: Based on requirements, develops functionality by following internal development standards. Technical solution to include detailed design documentation, code, configuration, and other supporting technical documents.
  • Testing: Performs unit, regression, connectivity and full end-to-end integration tests, when it applies; Supports quality insurance effort to gain user acceptance.
  • Delivery: Works closely with inter-departmental and cross-departmental resources to migrate new or enhanced functionality from test to production. Provides effective communication across the team as appropriate. Follows change control standards and processes for release to production.
    • Functions as a liaison with end users, research groups and other business support areas.
    • Facilitates design and technical meetings. Provides technical documentation to internal business and design teams.
    • Teaches, guides and mentors junior-level programmer/analysts.
    • Provides systems support during special events such as critical system upgrades, integration platform upgrades, new application go-lives, application failover exercises and disaster recovery drills.
    • Implements enterprise policies for security and confidentiality at the system and inter-system level.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience leading application design, software development, and maintenance. Required.
    • At least 5+ years related experience in a sophisticated, multiplatform environment.
    • Demonstrated experience using various programming and scripting languages. Expertise with Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems.
    • Demonstrated grasp of relational data modeling techniques.
    • Understanding of Unified Modeling Language tools and how they are applied to OO design.
    • Highly skilled in system performance tuning.
