  • HE08 – TRP $118,289 – $135,268 inclusive of 17% superannuation 

About the position

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Platforms and Storage, the Senior Research Platform Engineer will have responsibility for day-to-day management of specialist research Information Services infrastructure and associated services.  This position will ensure that the research needs of research groups are met efficiently and effectively in compliance with University and Government regulations.

The Senior Research Platform Engineer may be required to provide assistance with the planning and design of work to migrate HPC capabilities and services between suppliers, ensuring a seamless transition.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • A degree with substantial extension of the theories and principles, learned through experience; or a range of management experience; or postgraduate qualifications, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge or management or policy expertise to bring together diverse and sometimes conflicting information to solve new or one off problems.
  • Ability to be responsible for program/system development and implementation.
  • Ability to develop innovative methodologies or take a leading role in the application of proven techniques involving considerable theoretical and technical sophistication.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and personal management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to form a detailed knowledge of academic and administrative policies and the interrelationships between a range of policies and activities.
  • Experience developing innovative solutions and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and build relationships.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of Information Services infrastructure, high performance computing, IT systems, programming languages, and database systems that underpin contemporary research activities across a broad spectrum of researchers, specifically in the Linux operating system.
  • Demonstrated expert experience in the conduct of Information Services service development, research, evaluation, and design – including new and emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research data management principles, practices, and associated methodologies, encompassing the research data lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated high-level analytical skills.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency documenting complex systems.
  • Demonstrated capacity to mentor, train and support other technical staff or researchers in the use of Information Services.
  • Experience in a university or research environment.
