Job Title: Senior Research Associate 

Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Lancaster University

We invite applications for a Senior Post-Doctoral Research Associate position to join the Computational Statistical Inference for Engineering and Security (CoSInES)  programme. This is an exciting, cross-disciplinary research project that will develop new methods for Bayesian statistics that are fit-for-purpose to tackle contemporary challenges from engineering and security. The £3M programme is funded by EPSRC, and brings together research groups from the Universities of Lancaster, Bristol, Oxford and Warwick. See http://www.cosines.org for more details.

Lancaster’s internationally recognised Statistics group is one of the largest and strongest Statistics groups in the UK with 25 academic staff, and a vibrant community of post-doctoral researchers and research students. The Statistics group sits within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, one of the UK’s top departments in the Mathematical Sciences, ranked 7th overall in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework and 1st for the impact of its research.

You should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in Statistics or a related discipline. You will be experienced in one of more of the following areas: Bayesian statistics, computational statistics ot statistical machine learning. You will have the demonstrated the ability to develop new statistical methodology. We are particularly keen to encourage applicants with strong computational skills. A demonstrable ability to produce academic writing of the highest publishable quality is essential.
