The Department of Cell & Systems Biology (CSB) at the University of Toronto invites applications for a Senior Research Associate position to join Professor Sergey Plotnikov and Professor Ulrich Tepass’ research groups at the CSB Imaging Facility. Information about the CSB Imaging Facility can be found at https://csb.utoronto.ca/resources/#imaging. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2025.
The Research Associate is expected to independently conduct research for specific PI’s in the Imaging Facility. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of imaging protocols and image analysis routines for projects conducted by CSB laboratories, will use their expert knowledge to provide technical advice in experimental design and data analysis, and support research and teaching efforts that are related to the facility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – PhD in Biological Sciences, Physics or Engineering with a focus on developmental or cell biology and advanced imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy, live-cell imaging, super-resolution, and correlative microscopy, and quantitative image analysis.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience post Ph.D in developmental or cell biology and biomedical imaging.
- Strong expertise in image acquisition and analysis software (e.g., Leica LAS X, NIS Elements, ImageJ/Fiji, Micro-Manager; Image segmentation software).
- Experience in development of imaging protocols and image analysis routines for projects.
- Experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer review publications.
- Experience with the preparation of research proposals.
- Experience in training and mentoring of students is highly desired.
Skills
- Fluent computer skills and advanced knowledge of imaging techniques and microscopy equipment.
- Excellent research and analysis skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Other
- Knowledge of the cell and developmental biology literature.
- Ability to work independently and as part o a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivation, strong organizational and management skills.
