An exciting opportunity exists for a researcher to develop novel statistical methodology for healthcare applications through a collaborative “Healthcare Technologies for 2050” research project. The project, funded by EPSRC (https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=EP%2FT021020%2F1), is a joint venture between Lancaster University and University of Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to develop novel methodology to accelerate the next generation of research in the health sciences, and to gain experience of working with partners in other fields at the University of Glasgow while part of the UK’s leading department for industrially-relevant statistics and operations research.

You will be required to liaise with the computer scientists, clinicians and engineers on the project team who will share expertise to help you gain the necessary insights into the problems. The methodology you will develop will need to contend with multiple data collection mediums, complex data structures, mixed sampling frequencies and incomplete data. You will develop new statistical methods and publish them in statistical journals and/or conferences as well as contributing to publications in other disciplines. You will also be required to develop software to be published to the scientific community.

You should have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in statistics, machine learning, or a related discipline. You will have the demonstrated the ability to develop new statistical methodology. We are particularly keen to encourage applicants with strong computational skills and experience of writing software for use by domain specialists. A demonstrable ability to produce academic writing of the highest publishable quality is essential.

You will join us on an indefinite contract however, the role remains contingent on external funding which, at this time is for full time for 36 months in the first instance.  For this role we are open to discussing the possibility of reduced hours, job share, remote working, flexible start and finish times, or compressed hours.
