Prof. Mauricio Terebiznik, in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough, invites applicants for the position of Senior Research Associate to conduct collaborative research in host cell-pathogen interactions. Prof. Terebiznik research program focus on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern interactions between host cells and pathogens, including, pathogen recognition, membrane trafficking and phagocytosis.
This opportunity of a Senior Research Associate is a continuing appointment and the anticipated start date is August 15, 2024.

Job Duties:
The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for the conceptualization, execution and communication of research as directed by Prof. Mauricio Terebiznik. Beyond these responsibilities, the successful candidate is expected to oversee and administer lab duties as well as to co-supervise and mentor students and/or lab personnel; assist in the preparation of research manuscripts and grant applications and any other research related applications. At all times, the individual is expected to support the overall research plan and teaching missions of Prof. Terebiznik’s research group.
Qualifications:
(Minimum Qualifications)
Candidates must have a PhD with strong background in the areas of cell biology and microbiology and 5 years of postdoctoral experience, with demonstrated academic and research excellence through publications in leading peer review journals in the field.
Proven track record of conceptualizing and developing experimental strategies that analyzes and integrate cell biology and microbiology into studies of host cell-pathogen interactions. In addition, the candidate must have demonstrated experience in preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review publications in leading journals in the field. Previous demonstrable experience assisting with writing and submitting standard operating procedures (SOPs), material transfer agreements (MTAs), biosafety and ethics protocols and grants applications. Demonstrated effective skills for presenting/communication to expert and lay audiences. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work positively with others in a collaborative work environment, and to have the ability to co-supervise and mentor a variety of research trainees from undergraduate students to postdoctoral fellows.
Travel:
Limited travelling will be required. The Research Associate will be expected to present research at academic conferences.
