The Organisation

Climateworks Centre is an expert, independent adviser, acting as a bridge between research and action to accelerate the transition to net zero emissions for Australia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. It also benefits from strong relationships with an international network of affiliated organisations that support effective policies, financing, and action for greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Climateworks was co-founded in 2009 by The Myer Foundation and Monash University and works within the Monash Sustainable Development Institute.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Manager (Research) to apply high level expertise to lead the research, analysis and delivery of Climateworks’ projects in the Energy System in Australia and the region. Experience in the energy market, energy or environmental economics, or sectoral emission mitigation strategies will give you the edge we’re looking for.

The Senior Projects Manager (Research) will apply high-level expertise to lead the research and analysis on energy transition and energy sector decarbonisation. The position is highly collaborative, and works directly with a diverse range of research partners and stakeholders to (co-)deliver research and analysis to inform the development of energy transition and low emissions development strategies. 

As the successful Senior Projects Manager, you will be required to:

• Using your exceptional energy, sector knowledge, research and analysis oversight, stakeholder management, and project management skills, you will drive the end to end delivery of these projects, produce research papers, policy briefs, industry reports, manage small project teams and support translation of project research and findings into policy, planning, financing, and implementation recommendations, and provide technical content expertise, to achieve strategic outcomes.

• You will develop and maintain strong partnerships and networks with key stakeholders, project partners, global decarbonisation technical experts, global and regional think tanks, industry bodies, government and industry stakeholders and proactively seek opportunities for project growth, knowledge sharing and take a collaborative approach to deliver significant impact in energy transition and decarbonisation in Australia and South-east Asia.

• Seek to understand energy market and project contexts and stakeholder requirements, and develop options and best practices to support energy decarbonisation and transition through clean energy and energy efficiency development, transport electrification, technological and business innovation in both Australia and Southeast Asian countries.

• You will utilise your proven experience working in the energy sector in Australia or Southeast Asia, along with your aptitude for thinking outside the box to solve complex challenges, along with your demonstrated track record in collaborating to deliver high impact and transformational projects.

Your strong research skills, experience with interdisciplinary work and a profound interest in understanding and addressing complex climate challenges, together with your demonstrated ability to lead project work and substantial and demonstrated experience in the sector will set you for success in this role.

This role will be based in either Melbourne Australia or Jakarta, Indonesia – Depending on the successful candidate’s closest location.
