The Role & Team:
Providing leadership and strategic thinking for the development and management of digital products and initiatives within a matrix delivery team focussing on Enterprise Services eg Service Now.
This Product Manager role reports to the Senior Manager, Digital Products (in the Digital Product team) and sits within Digital Solutions an area of Digital Services.
Ensuring the we are solving the right problems and defining appropriate solutions to ensure continued value delivery to the business stakeholders, staff and students.
This role is responsible for managing products through the Product Lifecycle, gathering and prioritising product and customer requirements, and defining the product vision and roadmap. Working closely with Product Owners and Delivery teams, to deliver successful products that drive Deakin’s strategic goals, particularly in the area of Enterprise Services which focuses on enterprise and staff services, engagement and experience.
You will be surrounded by other product professionals within the Product team, who work collaboratively together to continuously improve our product Practice and capability at Deakin, share ideas and support each other. What you will do:
- Contributing to the creation of a broad range of digital solution and product strategies, and lead the development of specific solution and/or product roadmaps and plans.
- Lead discovery workshops using appropriate business and data analysis, ideation and facilitation techniques and methodologies. Gathering requirements, evaluating gaps and identifying opportunities, in order to scope new features, create high level user stories and produce product concept documentation as appropriate.
- Documenting the problem or opportunity, defining the vision, problem statement and desired outcomes and success measures that guide the product owners and development team to set clear sprint goals to focus the team.
- Liaising with technical and non-technical specialists to analyse, design and scope a range of new, or enhancements to existing, digital solutions and products, which address strategic goals and priorities and contribute to achieving Deakin’s long-term goals.
- Engaging with and influencing key stakeholders across the University to ensure that the digital roadmap delivers lasting business and customer value, and decisions are supported by user feedback, research and data.
Milestones you’ll achieve in your first 6-12 months:
Settle in, learn the Deakin landscape, get to know your teams (Product team and Enterprise Services delivery Stream) and the products you will be working on.:
- Get to know your key stakeholders, both within and outside of Digital Services.
- Work with your delivery Stream in Enterprise Services on planning discovery workshops and learn how our Product practice works at Deakin.
- Led the discovery process for our larger initiatives with the Enterprise Services Stream.
- Become the strategic business voice and subject matter expert for your products. Dive deep into the business and user Problems, Epics and understand the opportunities that will deliver the desired outcomes.
- Prepare roadmaps for the initiatives you are leading and communicate those to the business stakeholders.
A little bit about you:
- Post Graduate qualifications in Business, Marketing, Computer Science or other related area and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experienced in facilitating group stakeholder meetings, and the ability to negotiate, and influence stakeholders/colleagues and their expectations, to achieve objectives.
- Experience working in an agile delivery environment working as a PO, BA or Product Manager.
- Experience liaising with project managers, solution architects, senior business stakeholders, technical development teams, UX and designers.
- BA, Agile, PRINCE2, PMBOK or other relevant and recognised certification would be highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and understanding of User Experience principles and Design thinking practices would be an advantage.
