JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State Office of Entrepreneurship and Commercialization’s (OEC) Marketing and Communications team is seeking an experienced professional to join as a Senior Marketing Strategist, to oversee Commonwealth-wide economic development initiatives and programs including the LaunchBox & Innovation Network .

OEC spearheads Invent Penn State, a Commonwealth-wide initiative to spur economic development, job creation, and student career success. The initiative was launched in 2015 as a presidential priority to leverage the University’s existing infrastructure, expertise, and research profile to help bring Penn State’s intellectual property to the marketplace. As part of that effort, the Invent Penn State LaunchBox & Innovation Network was created to provide Pennsylvania entrepreneurs with the resources, connections, and know-how to launch new businesses. The Network is comprised of 21 locations embedded within Penn State campus communities offering no-cost services and programs designed to de-risk and accelerate startups. Today, 96% of Pennsylvanians have a Penn State-supported innovation space within 30 miles of where they live or work.

The person in this position will actively support the LaunchBox & Innovation Network by:

  • Leading the strategy and execution of centralized marketing and communications services supporting all 21 locations.
  • Collaborating with the LaunchBox & Innovation Network Statewide Coordinator to identify new marketing and communications strategies to support community needs.
  • Collaborating with lead campus communicators and LaunchBox and innovation space directors to ensure consistent messaging and identify opportunities for innovative marketing campaigns.
  • Providing direction and long-range planning, guidance, and support for all LaunchBox & Innovation Network stakeholders and constituents.
  • Managing the LaunchBox & Innovation Network multi-site instance consisting of 12 WordPress template sites.
  • Overseeing marketing strategy and execution for the Invent Penn State Summer Founders program.
  • Managing and directing creative work to external agencies.
  • Supervising marketing team members responsible for executing Network-wide marketing and communication activities.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) and 6+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A degree in marketing, communications, or a similar discipline is preferred
  • Previous experience in a university setting is not required
  • Extensive experience with strategic marketing planning
  • Possess advanced knowledge of marketing and communication principles
  • Be able to work both independently and in close collaboration with OEC staff members and internal and external University stakeholders
  • Exhibit superlative collaboration skills
  • Have tact, persistence, integrity, and an ability to succeed under pressure
  • Possess management skills to handle individual project load and oversight of other personnel
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to inclusionary practices which support diversity throughout the University

This role has the potential to be performed fully remote or as a hybrid of remote and on-site work. May require occasional evening and weekend obligations.
