Senior Manager Humanitarian Assistance

Senior Manager Humanitarian Assistance

(based in The Hague)

Cordaid’s Humanitarian Team is looking for a Senior Manager, who is both leading the team and when necessary joins the team in delivering the humanitarian program. With the team you will further position Cordaid’s humanitarian worldwide mandate within the organization and within our networks. This means working at the Dutch office, with Cordaid’s Country offices and with Cordaid’s worldwide operating Caritas and ACT Alliance networks.

What you do

You will answer to the International Director Business Development & Innovation and will collaborate with Cordaid’s Country Directors and managers of other departments to develop humanitarian strategies and portfolio. You will represent Cordaid’s humanitarian program in our humanitarian networks and alliances.

Main responsibilities:

  • You will develop and lead the implementation of Cordaid´s humanitarian strategy in close coordination with Cordaid´s management, country offices and local partners.
  • You will lead and manage the humanitarian team at global office and contribute to build programme and project portfolios.
  • You are responsible for acquiring institutional funding and maintaining relationships with strategic partners.
  • You provide technical support and support capacity development to country teams and partners and ensure that projects are implemented effectively and according to international humanitarian standards (SPHERE, CHS).
  • You will be flexible to travel and to give hands-on support in crisis situations.
  • You manage a small team of humanitarian Programme Managers, focussing on team performance, professional development and job satisfaction.

Who you are

  • You are a humanitarian leader and strategist.
  • You have a relevant master’s degree.
  • You have a minimum of10 years’ experience of managing humanitarian assistance programs and teams, which includes field experience.
  • You have worked a minimum of 5 years in humanitarian settings, which includes working in partnerships with national and local actors.
  • Experience with Caritas and/or ACT networks is an advantage.
  • Sectoral experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) or FSL (Food, Security and Livelihoods) is an advantage.
  • You have people management skills for leading a professional team.
  • You are result oriented and proactive and have a good sense of humour.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (and preferable in Dutch, Arabic and/or French).
  • You are based in the Netherlands and have flexibility to travel.
