Senior Manager, External Benchmarks

  • Full time continuing role as Senior Manager External Benchmarks within our Advanced Analytics Planning and Enterprise Data team

About the opportunity

The Senior Manager External Benchmarks is responsible for leading and managing the University’s relationship with external benchmarking companies to optimize the University’s rankings. This involves leading the University engagement and negotiations with key external benchmarking agencies, engaging actively with the University leadership to develop and implement enabling services for the successful reporting of key metrics to external benchmarking agencies, working with external benchmarking groups to align their requirements with the University’s data collection, analysis, and reporting systems, facilitating research benchmarking surveys and responses for External benchmarking agencies, reporting on key benchmarking provider requirements, trends, and interpretations.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • strategic management and planning including leading University engagement and negotiations with key external benchmarking agencies
  • reporting and strategic advice, providing high level reporting and advice to the Head of Research Analytics and other key stakeholders, including DVC-Research, on the external agencies, processes, requirements, and reporting of research performance at the University to guide decisions in relation to research policy and resource allocation
  • information management, managing the collection and delivery of datasets as required for external benchmarking, e.g. GRUP Survey data for ARWU benchmarking
  • capability enhancements, conceptualising and growing the University of Sydney’s recognition with the leading benchmarking agencies
  • advice and support, establishing and maintaining the  blueprint for University of Sydney staff to use when publishing, quoting or otherwise referencing the University of Sydney in any research outputs
  • risk management, identifying and analysing risks and potential issues, raising these issues and concerns, and developing and implementing mitigation plans to ensure risks are minimised
  • relationship building and compliance, establishing and maintaining high level professional relationships with key stakeholders across the University including with other administrative portfolios and academic units, to ensure integration of data collection requirements and consistency in relevant processes and procedures as needed for external benchmark reporting
  • communication strategy, leading and overseeing the provision of effective information and communication from the University to external benchmarking agencies, ensuring that any advice provided by the University is consistent and relevant

About you

  • agile ways of working, ability to work under an agile methodology approach, including working across teams as required
  • demonstrated high level skills and experience in working with key agencies in the university benchmarking arena and key aligned organisations e.g. ORCID
  • detailed level understanding and knowledge of relational and bibliographic databases, data collection and collection frameworks
  • excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to negotiate and influence planning and development of information strategies with external benchmarking bodies, members of executive management and individuals
  • outstanding skills and sound experience managing large, complex information datasets and presenting required datasets on time to external benchmarking agencies
  • sound understanding of Australian higher education policy frameworks and their relationship to research performance indicators and funding.
  • demonstrated experience and commitment to operating as part of a high performing leadership team
  • demonstrated experience in improving business processes, operation and performance

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
