Job Profile Summary
Under immediate supervision, this position provides a variety of circulation services and support functions that assist students, faculty and staff in obtaining materials and resources from the library. This position has responsible decision making authority in carrying out services of the Circulation/Reserve/Periodicals Department while conforming to established library policies and standard library practices. Performs related duties as assigned.

Position may work a second shift: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Minimum Education:
- Associates degree required.
Minimum Experience/Training:
- Three or more years of functional experience in related field of work
- An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
Essential Functions:
- Daily- 20%: Coordinates various administrative functions relevant to library operations, using established library standards and the library’s computerized Circulation software, to provide circulation assistance to library patrons in the location and use of library materials and resources by: responding in person, by telephone, and electronically registering and updating patron records in the library student /personnel database using personal override authority to correct, update, change patron data in the system database checking in and out library materials according to established library procedures assigning group study rooms to fill the request of students collecting and recording library fines and fees providing directional information conducting security checks when patrons are entering or leaving the library and trip security detectors at the entrance gate monitoring the security of library staff offices and library in general during operating hours coordinating daily floor sweeps to pick-up books, arranging furniture and general straightening of the library overseeing the opening or closing of the building and public areas as needed assists in supervising the evacuation of the library during an emergency.
- Daily -20%: Ensures the order, accuracy, and availability of the items in the collection in the supervision of books stacks by: shelving books and materials reading call numbers on shelved books, and removes/shelves items out of order assisting in shifting materials in the collection to ensure standard book space per shelf performing periodic random shelf-reading checks for accuracy of the staff with their shelf-reading tasks and notes discrepancies for the supervisor checking materials that have been returned for damage and processes and sends any to Technical Services for repair searching shelves for misplaced or missing books.
- Daily -10%: In-house all periodicals collected during clean-up or inside book drops, used by patrons, for departmental statistics.
- Daily -5%: Administers new hire harassment, retaliation and cyber-theft tutorials to all new hires and submits certificates as required.
- Daily – 15%: Assists supervisor by training part-time staff and college work study students in the Circulation/Reserve Periodicals Departments of the Library and oversees their tasks in absence of the supervisor, including adjusting their tasks/schedules to provide adequate coverage during staff absences.
- Daily -10%: Responsible for downloading, printing, and mailing of Library Overdue or Lost notices to remind patrons to return their borrowed Library material.
- Daily-5%: Cautions patrons whose behavior has been reported as disruptive, contacting Campus Safety if needed to ensure patrons’ security.
- Daily -5%: Assists patrons when reference librarians are not on duty by providing basic assistance to library information resources including use of the library online catalog for title, author, or location information, and aids with interlibrary loan transactions while at the Circulation desk.
- Monthly- 5%: Collaborates in cross-training and teaches other full-time staff in the department other specialized duties performed to ensure adequate coverage and a more productive department in case of absences or vacancies.
- Daily -5%: Performs other duties as assigned.
