About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lecturer to lead the implementation plan for year 3 of the new MD Program (MD Design) and to act as Theme Lead for the Kind and Compassionate Professional theme for MD Design curriculum, commencing in 2023. A key requirement for this role will be to work collaboratively to achieve a cohesive and a fully integrated year 3 course in line with the high-level design and pedagogical principles of the new MD. This will require identification of synergies and opportunities to integrate learning and assessment activities across speciality areas and themes to enable students to meet multiple learning outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include:

Teaching

  • Support the ongoing improvement of the MD program via successful coordination of the year 3 fully integrated course ensuring that it is engaging, relevant and contemporary and provides an appropriate clinically immersive experience.

  • Teach across different settings and develop innovative curriculum design including alternative learning and teaching methods and resources.

  • Contribute to the preparation and provision of interactive learning experiences and participate in assessment activities especially in relation to the Kind and Compassionate Professional theme

  • Maintain and improve the quality of the courses as determined through evaluation instruments to meet industry and educational standards.

  • Provide high quality service to students, including academic counselling and advice.

  • Liaise with the Assessment Workstream to identify relevant and appropriate assessment tasks as part of the whole of program approach to assessment

  • Development of a clear plan regarding future capacity and capability requirements, resources and infrastructure implications, operational considerations as well as opportunities for evaluation, scholarship and research as they relate to supporting learning and teaching activities for their specific theme.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

  • Provide up-to-date academic expertise related to the Theme topic area to inform curriculum development.

  • Maintain and active record of producing quality scholarship of teaching and learning outputs consistent with discipline norms as lead contributor, by publishing or exhibiting in national research journals, other appropriate refereed publications, and conference publications

  • Participate in or contribute as chief investigator role in applications for significant research funding to support projects and activities, which includes actively seeking, obtaining, and managing research funding.

  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology, and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Undertake independent and/or team research that where possible impacts on policy, practices and/or commercialisation resulting in national recognition and developing international recognition in the research area.

  • Encourage, initiate and coordinate strategic collaborative research projects in health professions education across University, national and international levels.

  • Review and draw upon best practice medical education research methodologies.

Supervision and Researcher Development

  • Act as Principal Supervisor to Higher Degree by Research students.

  • Demonstrates and leads others in the responsible conduct of research.

  • Demonstrates personal effectiveness in supervision and management and development of researcher capability and skill.

  • Lead the facilitation of engagement opportunities for supervisees

  • Effective lead and develop employee performance and conduct by providing feedback, coaching, and professional development.

About the Academy for Medical Education

Located within the UQ Medical School, the Academy for Medical Education (AME) provides leadership in medical education practice and medical education research. The AME promotes and supports development of high-quality learning and assessment across the educational programs of the School including the Doctor of Medicine program. Collaborating closely with colleagues in the Mayne Academies, Greater Brisbane Clinical School, Rural Clinical School, Ochsner Clinical School (Louisiana, US), School of Biomedical Sciences, and School of Public Health, the AME strives to ensure that every medical student reaches their full potential and is poised to provide the best care to their future patients

About You

  • Postgraduate qualification in medical education or outstanding record of scholarly activities in medical education.

  • Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia; or strong credentials in education, applied to a health discipline.

  • Demonstrated academic leadership in the planning and provision of quality teaching programs in complex environments such as healthcare settings.

  • A proven track record in curriculum development and extensive experience with innovation in medical education.

  • Demonstrated ability as a kind and compassionate person and professional.

  • Academic expertise in compassion and professionalism.

  • Demonstrated capacity to represent and the Academy for Medical Education and the MD program within healthcare, academic and community settings.

  • Proven ability to lead and develop multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated organizational and business management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills including a strong commitment to staff development, equity, and diversity.

  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication skills.

  • A solid record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion

What We Can Offer 

This is a part time (0.5 FTE), fixed-term position through until 31 December 2024 at Academic Level C

The full-time equivalent base salary at Academic Level C will be in the range $124,378.29 – $143,415.50 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $145,522.59 – $167,796.12 per annum.

  

The following flexible employment options may be available for this role: some working from home; variable start or finish times; compressed hours; purchased leave; flexitime.  There may be opportunity for additional hours or extension of contract, pending research grant outcomes.
