Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Creative Practice (Film, Screen, Animation)
to join School of Creative Practice, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Academic Division.

The successful applicant will play a central role in designing and delivering programs, with research interests that span traditional screen, and a range of experimental and emerging film, animation, interactive and immersive media and games forms, positioning the School as a leader shaping the future convergences of screen and XR sectors.

The successful applicant will have a strong teaching profile with demonstrated positive student feedback, a track record of research success and a reputation for excellence in industry engagement.

The Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice is led by the Executive Dean and the Faculty Executive team comprising the Executive Dean, Deputy Dean, Heads of School, Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Associate Dean Research, and Faculty Operations Manager.

The faculty is comprised of the following Schools under the leadership of the respective Head of School:

• School of Communication
• School of Creative Practice
• School of Design
• School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education
• School of Teacher Education and Leadership
• School of Justice

In addition, specialist Faculty professional functions include

• Faculty Operations: Budget and Planning, School Administration Support, Space, Equipment and Assets, and Technical Services teams under the leadership of the Faculty Operations Manager
• Office of the Deputy Dean: Engagement, and Student Specialist Support under the leadership of the Deputy Dean
• Office of the Executive Dean under the leadership of the Executive Dean

• Visual Arts

During 2022, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) curriculum is being reaccredited and this presents new and exciting opportunities for the School. Our courses provide a ‘space to create’ for students, where technical proficiency is combined with learning how to make meaning, being collaborative, and socially engaged practitioners. Individuals wishing to further their skills and knowledge through postgraduate study, can undertake practice-led or practice-based research programs that are internationally renowned for their innovative, creative, and commercial contributions to Creative Industries and broader industry fields.

The School has established international connections including teaching and research partnerships with leading institutions and organisations across Austria, China, East Timor, France, Germany, Norway, Indonesia, South Africa, South America, United Kingdom, and the United States.

What you need to succeed

You will demonstrate:

1. Completion of a doctoral qualification.
2. Demonstrated contemporary practical knowledge and experience of Film and/ or Animation, with a strong background in emerging technologies and at least two of the following areas of expertise:
• Production Management across live action drama, animation, emergent digital technologies
• Directing of live action drama, animation, emergent digital technologies
• Post Production (including Visual Effects and Virtual Production)
• Game Engines and Coding
• Virtual, Augmented and/or Extended Realities
3. Demonstrated leadership in using contemporary and emerging digital approaches, methods, and tools to develop innovative approaches to learning, curriculum development, research and industry practice.
4. Evidence of effective leadership of curriculum development and design, effective unit-level administration and leading teaching teams at undergraduate level.
5. Evidence of successful higher degree research supervision and student completions.
6. Evidence of leading research projects and initiatives with measurable outcomes including attracting funding.
7. Evidence of active external engagement including membership or chairing committees, and/ or formalised engagement with industry and partners.
8. Demonstrated track record of measurable research with a recognised national research profile and growing international profile.
