The Senior IT Professional II, under general direction, provides technical leadership for multiple complex unit-level projects or operations utilizing multiple technical fields. Develops technical standards for implementing unit projects or operations. Salary Range: $62,241.02 – $88,982.00

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years of experience in multiple technology areas such as system administration, DevOps, collaborative software development, customer support, application support, project management, database administration, system reporting, access management, system security, and/or disaster recovery
  • Linux containers experience. Linux Virtual environments experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Keyboarding skills
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Strong Interpersonal communication skills

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Five years of multiple OS and Hardware support, troubleshooting and repair experience.
  • Experience with Linux management and writing complex Linux scripts to support maintenance of the OS as well as software installs.
  • Experience in Management of Virtual environments, Enterprise data back-up solutions, and Storage Area Networks.
  • Experience with File Archive and Sharing Systems

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Office Suite, Apple Macintosh OS X
  • General TCP-IP networking knowledge
  • Knowledge of VMware Hypervisor and related management tools
  • Knowledge of Hyper-V Hypervisor and related management tools
  • Knowledge of cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) specifically around cloud storage

  • CompTIA Linux+
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management
  • Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS)

  • Dell Online Self Dispatch (DOSD) Certifications or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities:

  • Data Backup –
    Provides technical leadership on standard technologies to maintain document retention schedules for files and servers. Coordinates verifying and testing of backup and recovery of data. Coordinate the yearly disaster recovery test. Produce reports for successful and none successful backups to the resource owner and supervisor. Leads the Continuing operation and optimization of backup systems.
  • Data Center and Hardware – Server Administration – Participates as a team member in server administration. Data Centers are in multiple locations and some travel will be required.
  • Storage Management – Provides technical leadership Service for maintaining, troubleshooting the optimization of the Storage Area Network (SAN). Coordinates, assists, and recommends upgrades. Reports to resource owners and supervisor on data usage and methods to optimize storage costs.  Trains, provides technical guidance, and support to junior employees on SAN installation, procedures and hardware issues.
  • File archive and sharing systems – Serves as a resource for maintaining and troubleshooting optimization of all file archive and sharing systems used in the unit and recommends upgrades. Reports to resource owners and supervisor on usage and research efficiencies.
  • Documentation – Enters and maintains entries in the ticketing system documenting user questions and needs. Documents work performed by entering and maintaining entries in the ticketing system(s) in a timely manner.  Documents security and/or issues management. Creates and updates documents for configuration, usage procedures or any other needed documentation related to products that this position is the primary contract or that are shared responsibilities of the team. Documents relevant projects in the project management system(s).
  • Customer Service – General – Participates in meetings to onboard new services for customers. Assist customers with incidents and service requests for services that are managed by team. Participates on relevant Change Advisory Boards (CABs).
  • Remote Desktop / Remote Application management – Leads the maintenance and troubleshooting and Optimization of remote desktop and remote application services offered by the unit. Coordinates, assists, and recommends upgrades. Reports to resource owners and supervisor on usage and research efficiencies.
  • Data Center and Hardware – Monitoring and Cloud Computing – Administers the College monitoring of shared systems and servers. Assist with Research initiatives in cloud computing.
  • Accounts and ID Management – Participates as a team member in the facilitation for the full lifecycle of User account management.
  • Team Cross Training – Leads cross training sessions for other team members pertaining to areas of primary responsibility. Participates in team cross training events lead by other team members. Performs other duties as assigned.
