The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy’s Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU) is seeking a Senior Instructional Designer to oversee our internal and external learning management systems (LMS) and lead the development of instructional materials for internal and external stakeholders in the areas of healthcare innovation, substance use disorder, and suicide prevention. The incumbent will work as part of our productive, collaborative team at the University of Pittsburgh. For over ten years, our team has been dedicated to conducting high-quality implementation, evaluation, and healthcare research work across Pennsylvania and the United States. The Senior Instructional Designer will oversee the design and improvement of all curricula, provide guidance and be a resource to all Instructional Design and Training staff in the use of active learning tools, and report directly to the Manager of Instructional Design and Training. The incumbent will oversee educational research and lead innovative efforts to enhance existing and newly created learning resources. Research in the institutional setting will involve collaborating, educating, and analyzing performance of multiple healthcare professions, including pharmacy, nursing, medicine, etc.

The Senior Instructional Designer will apply learning theories, instructional design models, and user-centered design principles to ensure effective, enjoyable learning experiences. The Senior Instructional Designer will be expected to lead and advise program staff on principles of learning and pedagogy and instructional design best practices. The incumbent will be responsible for disseminating instructional design knowledge among PERU colleagues, including the Associate Instructional Designer and other members of the Training & Communications Team, via the development of tools, resources, and coaching/support. The Senior instructional Designer will support training programs and multi-professional training environments. In addition to collaboration on the design and development of educational programs, the incumbent will collaborate with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of these programs while recommending any necessary changes. Training and experience with trouble-shooting audio visual systems is a requirement. Additional required proficiencies include writing, editing, research, marketing, and PowerPoint. Expertise in content authoring tools (e.g. Articulate Storyline, iSpring, Vyond), experience with audio/video recording and editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Panopto), and extensive experience with LMS administration are required. Instructional design portfolio is strongly encouraged.

 

Master’s degree required. Bachelor’s degree can substitute for Master’s with equivalent experience per the university guidelines.
