The Senior IACUC Compliance Coordinator is a position within the Office of the Vice President for Research’s Compliance office and works in the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) unit. Responsibilities are to support post-approval monitoring of IACUC protocols to ensure that laboratory animal research is performed in accordance with university approved IACUC protocols and federal regulations. This position requires being comfortable working in a typical compliance unit: fast-paced, team-oriented and collaborative, and being sensitive to the confidential nature of IACUC work.
Essential Functions: The Senior IACUC Compliance Coordinator is responsible for conducting initial and follow-up audits of approved protocols at animal laboratories to ensure compliance with federal regulations and guidelines; Directing and participating in IACUC semi-annual facilities inspections, conducting follow-up inspection visits; Preparing reports for the IACUC Assistant Director with documentation and correspondence related to non-compliant items identified at the audit visits and providing information to the IACUC Assistant Director for annual reports to accrediting agencies; The Senior IACUC Compliance Coordinator will be advising faculty and other researchers about current regulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, policies and procedures; Investigating concerns and providing summary of incident report in a timely manner to IACUC Assistant Director; The Senior IACUC Compliance Coordinator will be reviewing upcoming expiration dates on animal protocols and contacting faculty researchers to ensure that their annual and/or 3-year re-writes are provided to the IACUC Office in a timely manner; Providing monthly Post Approval Monitoring (PAM) summary reports for the monthly IACUC meetings; Assist in hosting inspections and site visits from outside regulatory agencies; includes coordinating and managing the AAALAC accreditation process; • Present training to researchers and all facility users on IACUC policies and the protocol submission process; Assist with the protocol submission process, including pre-review of all submitted protocols prior to IACUC member review and approval. Compile and maintain in an organized method all review comments and communications during the protocol review process; Serving as a liaison between animal users, ULAR, Environmental Health & Radiation Safety, IBC, and Occupational Health. Performs other duties as assigned; Works with Lab Animal module and eRA teams to synchronize related business practices, system improvements, modification to protocol forms, and submission routing processes; Other compliance support as required to support the IACUC Assistant Director or OVPR leadership; Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience; experience with animal care, demonstrated knowledge of federal/state laws and AAALAC policies governing animal research. Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field. AALAS certification at a LAT (Laboratory Animal Technician) or higher level. Certified Veterinary Technician/Technologist. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities:
*Working knowledge of applicable federal regulations related to IACUC and animal welfare.
*Familiarity with animal research protocols, post approval monitoring and IACUC procedures.
*Working knowledge of medical terminology.
*Fluency and comfort working with computers, online systems, and working in a hybrid environment.
*Demonstrated computer skills, and proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Access or comparable software packages.
*Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to multi-task and strong attention to detail.
*Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse constituent population
Preferred:
*Experience in animal science, biology, animal-related anthropology or psychology, or relevant field.

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
