Position Summary

The Senior Global Policy Associate is part of a growing global policy team and is responsible for advancing global policy and advocacy priorities that promote and protect sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice (SRHRJ) worldwide. Reporting to the Director of Global Policy, this position brings policy analysis and Guttmacher data to bear on global policy discussions by engaging with key stakeholders, developing written materials and providing technical expertise to partners, policymakers, and advocates, and bringing global policy perspectives into Guttmacher’s data and research efforts.


  • Engage in advocacy efforts at global, regional and country levels to advance an inclusive and comprehensive SRHR agenda that draws on the evidence and is grounded in human rights.
  • Cultivate and manage strategic partnerships and collaborations with a diverse group of global, regional and country organizations, including UN agencies, civil society organizations, governments, and other influencers to create pathways for advancing SRHRJ.
  • Identify opportunities for Guttmacher to participate in global spaces and heighten the Institute’s visibility on the global stage.
  • Manage the delivery of global advocacy events, meetings, and other opportunities to advance our strategic goals.
  • Represent the Institute at external meetings and conferences and with partners across the globe.
  • Collaborate with staff across the Institute to bring a policy perspective to Guttmacher’s global advocacy efforts and research.
  • Liaise with the federal policy team on international policy developments, including leveraging connections between US foreign policy and global efforts.
  • Coordinate with Guttmacher’s communications staff to develop and disseminate policy-related messaging around the Institute’s work at the global and regional levels.
  • Develop and review written materials in a range of formats and for various audiences.
  • Prepare and contribute to a range of advocacy materials for various audiences in consultation with colleague organizations and partners in-country.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and reports and represent the Institute with donors.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as appropriate.


Qualifications and Skills

  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in the fields of international SRHR, human rights or global health.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of reproductive rights, health, and justice, and the role of the Institute in promoting antiracism in the reproductive rights field.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting, implementing and helping to develop global advocacy strategies.
  • An understanding of and experience working with data and research to advance policy priorities.
  • Proven track record of working in collaboration with partners and in coalition with other organizations across issues and geographies.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Compelling and thoughtful communication style that meets the needs of internal and external audiences and engenders trust and collaboration.
  • Ability to develop solid working relationships with colleagues across the Institute and represent the Institute externally.
  • Ability to work independently, plan, foresee needs and problems and offer solutions, and manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive manner paying close attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Spanish or French preferred.
  • Able to travel internationally up to 25% of time.


Salary and Benefits

Salary starting at $92,455 to $143,295, commensurate with experience.
