- The Senior Forestry Technician will work with faculty in the Department and provide assistance for both on-campus and off-site field activities. Primary responsibilities will be: 1) Field Data Collection – collect field data for research projects relating to forest management, silviculture, ecology and wildlife. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintenance and use of data logging equipment; use of basic forest inventory equipment; establishing, maintaining and monitoring long-term forestry research plots; mapping forest stands; maintenance and use of GPS equipment; use and maintenance of soil sampling equipment; 2) Laboratory Management and Analysis – duties include, but are not limited to, lab sample preparation, basic analysis, lab management, lab sample quality control, safety management, and inventory; 3) Data Management and Analysis – duties include, but are not limited to, data entry, database management, geospatial and statistical analysis of research data, and data quality control; and 4) Writing technical and research documents – duties include, but are not limited to, writing data analysis summaries, assistance writing applied research manuscripts, and assistance writing grant proposals.
- Qualifications
- Candidate will have a minimum of a B.S. degree in forestry, ecology, environmental sciences, biology, or related field. A M.S. degree is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years of experience working on forestry, ecology and/or wildlife related projects, and demonstrated experience working with partners such as woodland owners, industrial foresters, state and federal agencies and non-profit organizations. Position will require frequent overnight travel, extensive work in the field, and the development of numerous professional contacts.
