The Department of Pediatrics has an opening for a full-time open rank University Staff (unclassified) Senior Financial/Business Analyst – Colorado Springs position.

Jobs in this career family provide general business operations of the organization or a combination of operational responsibilities covering multiple career families.  Functions include institutional research, statistical analysis, policy development and review, strategic planning, and broad unit business operations such as parking and transportation services, risk management, childcare services, real estate and property management, retail services or job responsibilities that combine fiscal, HR and operational management responsibilities.

Nature of Work

This is an exciting opportunity to join the business services team in the University of Colorado School of Medicine – Department of Pediatrics at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Anschutz Medical Campus fosters collaboration among students, researchers, and clinicians in one of the largest academic health centers in the nation. Campus architecture and state-of-the-art technology bridge education and research with two world-class hospitals: University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado.  The Department of Pediatrics includes 25 sections, 18 programs and 3 affiliates with approximately 1,200 faculty and staff.   

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking applications for a Senior or Principal Financial/Business Analyst – Colorado Springs. This full-time (1.0 FTE), University Staff (non-classified) position will serve as a key resource to Colorado Springs-based faculty in support of accounting and financial activities and related business functions including financial reporting, analysis, forecasting and business planning. The Department currently has 100 Colorado Springs-based clinical faculty members with planned growth in several areas in partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado (Colorado Springs).

The person in this role will work closely and collaboratively with the Department (Directors and Business Managers), CU Medicine, and Children’s Hospital Colorado-Colorado Springs personnel to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient business services in support of Departmental faculty. The position is responsible for understanding the complexities, systems and the funds flow between the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and CU Medicine while supporting a variety of financial and business analysis tasks to provide accurate and timely requests for financial data, analysis, projections, and various projects. 

Supervision Received

Reports directly to the Manager of Business Operations – Colorado Springs.

Examples of Work Performed

Business Services Senior Professional Level:

  • Partner with the Manager of Business Operations to provide oversight of the departmental income statements and fund accounts by ensuring accuracy, performing analysis, and presenting summary to leaders
  • Provide financial and business analysis related to strategy and planning, cost containment, and efficiency opportunities
  • Assist in the development of financial and data analysis tools, reports, and dashboards to be used in the quarterly or ad hoc review of business performance
  • Analyze and present clinical productivity data using analysis and technical skillset to provide insight into the business and financial performance
  • Assisting the Manager of Business Operations and Director of Finance on financial matters with contract negotiations and funds flow agreements
  • In partnership with Departmental Finance Team and Division Business Managers, participate in annual budget and analyze actual performance against budget
  • In partnership with Departmental Finance and Accounting Team, completing tasks associated with quarterly and year-end accounting function.
  • Contributing to faculty strategic planning, recruitment, and onboarding as needed.
  • Communicating with CU School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and CU Medicine leadership on administrative and financial affairs for the Colorado Springs Department of Pediatrics
  • Helping prepare education materials and communications for faculty and staff in regard to all financial matters for their clinics and missions.
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.

Principal Professional Level:

  • Lead the oversight of the departmental income statements and fund accounts by ensuring accuracy, performing analysis, and presenting summary to leaders
  • Provide financial and business analysis related to strategy and planning, cost containment, and efficiency opportunities
  • Develop financial and data analysis tools, reports, and dashboards to be used in the quarterly or ad hoc review of business performance
  • Analyze and present clinical productivity data using analysis and technical skillset to provide insight into the business and financial performance
  • Assisting the Manager of Business Operations and Director of Finance on financial matters with contract negotiations and funds flow agreements
  • Lead the Colorado Springs Department of Peds budgeting process in partnership with Departmental Finance Team and Division Business Managers
  • Lead the completion of tasks associated with the Colorado Springs Department of Pediatrics quarterly and year-end accounting function.
  • Provide recommendations to the Manager of Business Operations relating to strategy and recruitment
  • Communicating with CU School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and CU Medicine leadership on administrative and financial affairs for the Colorado Springs Department of Pediatrics
  • Lead the preparation of education materials and communications for faculty and staff in regard to all financial matters for their clinics and missions
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in Colorado Springs for the Department of Pediatrics related to financial analysis and the tools associated with that work (Microsoft Excel, etc).
  • Perform other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Senior Professional:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or data analytics from an accredited college or university.  
  • Two (2) years of broad and diversified professional level experience that included financial or business analysis responsibilities.

Principal Professional:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or data analytics from an accredited college or university.  
  • Three (3) years of broad and diversified professional level experience that included financial or business analysis responsibilities.

Substitution: A combination of education and related professional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four to five (4-5) years of progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, data analysis or another quantitative field.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

  • Business Services Senior Professional:  $58,508 to $74,422
  • Principal Professional: $67,284 to $85,586

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
