Senior Fellow of Practice in Public Management

The Blavatnik School of Government exists to support and inspire better government around the world through teaching, research, and policy engagement.

A strategic priority for us is to grow our expertise and impact in public management, building on a number of exciting education opportunities and research projects already at the School. The post holders will teach public management on our degree and executive programmes, engage in practice-focused scholarship, and contribute to the academic and administrative work of the School. They will also collaborate with the academic faculty in the School through activities such as co-teaching, co-authorship of policy and practice publications (as well as other materials), mentoring more junior faculty, and public engagement.

To that end, we wish to appoint two exceptional public sector leaders. You will be a senior practitioner with a high-level track record of helping to improve the effectiveness of the public sector or not-for-profit organisations. The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching senior practitioners (including course development, delivery, and review) and a proven ability to reflect upon and systematise lessons from their practice. You will have the skills and expertise necessary to contribute rigorous, practice-based teaching on public management to our degree and executive programmes.

The successful post holders will: a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent significant experience in business, the public sector, public policy, public management, or another relevant domain; have published articles or commentaries in practitioner-orientated publications that are comparable in distinction with that expected of other professors of practice at other leading schools of public policy; have an outstanding reputation in their field and be considered as a thought-leader on public policy or practice; have a reputation as an outstanding practice-focused teacher and programme director or a track record that indicates the clear capability to rapidly develop these skills; and have the proven capability to contribute to administration and leadership within higher education and be able to demonstrate excellence in such work.
