About the Role
This diverse role gives you exposure across a wide range of technologies as well as strategic tasks – and a lot of potential to grow your expertise and skills.

As the Senior Engineer, you will manage the Network Access environments across the University to ensure the technical and operational stability, functionality and currency of the systems and infrastructure are maintained. In providing hands-on, technical administration for various Network Access components, you will deliver quality outcomes and achieve divisional objectives. With your experience in routing and switching, you will support projects from an operational and maintenance perspective, ensuring the functionality of the network and performing maintenance tasks.

The Network Access encompasses, but is not restricted to, the following areas:
Access Layer switches, Distribution Routers, Building Site Routers, Node Routers, Wireless Access Points (WAPs) and Controllers, Cisco ISE, Infoblox DDI, Network Automation & Orchestration, Cisco DNA-C, Cisco DNA-Spaces, Microwave, Fibre Plant, Network Cabling, LAN Design work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the maintenance, operation and support of Network Services, ensuring customer expectations and Service Level Agreements are met
  • Providing technical expertise to project managers and project teams throughout the project lifecycle, particularly during the design and build phases
  • Negotiating and collaborating with suppliers, service providers, system integrators, business and technical teams to deliver high quality services and solutions

About You
As a team player, you have strong interpersonal skills, and you thrive when working collaboratively to deliver effective service outcomes. You have advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and translate business problems into technical solutions. In supporting projects, you are driven by results and enjoy working across a wide range of service areas.

You will have strong organisational skills and attention to detail and will document and keep comprehensive records of your technical processes and workflows.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience
  • A qualification in ITIL and/or previous experience using ITIL at a practical level
  • Established experience in managing and maintaining network infrastructure, including Routing & Switching, within a complex environment
  • Root cause problem analysis expertise and detailed technical understanding of various network technologies (general storage, backup and virtualisation) encompassing enterprise solutions, and the ability to apply these in a high availability context within a demanding environment
